Level 3 Award in Supervising Food Safety in Catering
QCA Qualification Number 100/5824/2
Who is it for? This Award is aimed at food handlers working in the hospitality and catering industries who have a supervisory role or those who have been identified as potential supervisors.

Availability
The Level 3 Award in Supervising Food Safety in Catering will be available to catering and hospitality candidates from 1 January 2006. The Award will meet the requirements of EU legislation which from 1 January 2006 will require all food businesses to have a food safety management system in place based on HACCP principles.
Course length:
22 Guided Learning Hours

Examination:
90 minutes, 40 short answer questions, pass mark: 60%


Content
This award tests knowledge at a similar level to the Intermediate Certificate. It is however a new qualification with a considerable change of emphasis. It concentrates on those aspects of the supervision of food hygiene and safety that enable supervisors in the hospitality and catering industries to identify problem areas and to recommend solutions. There is particular stress on the specific role of the supervisor, specifically in ensuring the correct application of food safety management systems, monitoring procedures and communicating with staff.
