The Let's Get Cooking consultation is now closed.
A tremendous level of response has been received to the Let's Get
Cooking consultation conducted by the Royal Society of Health. An
overwhelming majority of respondents strongly welcomed the proposed
national programme of cooking clubs to encourage children and young
people to learn to prepare and cook good healthy food. As one teacher
stated;
"Cooking should be seen as a right for every
child who wants it and in my experience, most do."
A staggering 99% of all respondents stated there was a need for
a cooking skills programme and nearly 90% of respondents were interested
in getting involved. In addition constructive suggestions were received
on how to further improve the programme design and these have been
taken on board.
We would like to thank all participants for taking the time to
contribute to this process. Your views and comments are highly valued
and have shaped the Let's Get Cooking programme.
The full Let's Get Cooking Consultation Report
is available here.
An Executive Summary is also available here.
The consultation supports a Big Lottery Fund bid by the School
Foods Trust in partnership with the British Nutrition Foundation,
Prince's Trust, Improvement Foundation, Business in the Community
and Magic Outcomes aiming to roll out 4000 cooking clubs across
England by the end of 2008.
The funding decision should be known by July 2007 and if successful
the intention is to publicise the programme late summer and ask
interested groups to apply to set up a Let's Get Cooking club in
their area. Please monitor the Let's
Get Cooking website for the latest news.
