Royal Society of Health
pays respects to Dr Lee Jong-wook
The Society would like to extend its sympathies to the family, friends and colleagues of Lee Jong-wook, Director General of the World Health Organisation who sadly passed away this morning, 22 May.
Society Chief Executive Professor Richard Parish said, "Dr Lee's leadership will surely be missed by the global public health community. He is to be commended for his dedication to the attainment of the highest possible level of health, and for showing true leadership over issues ranging from HIV/AIDS to avian flu".
Dr Lee was the first UN agency head from the Republic of Korea. He began his five-year term as Director-General of WHO on 21 July, 2003.
Ends 22 May 2006
