Clean Water - The Society backs Prime Ministers' commitment
One in five of the world's population has no access to safe drinking water and twice that number no access to adequate sanitation. The Society therefore wholeheartedly supports the British Government's goal of enabling people to lead healthier and more productive lives by improving their access to a safe drinking water supply and appropriate sanitation. This access is fundamental to improving longevity and quality of life as well as to the realisation of the potential for economic growth. This is as true for the United Kingdom as it is for developing countries. The Royal Society for the Promotion of Health was founded in 1876. We are the UK's largest and longest-established multidisciplinary membership organisation in the field of health. Our Members share an interest in promoting health through their daily work, and have joined us as a professional network that cuts across traditional professional boundaries. Our founders included Edwin Chadwick and Florence Nightingale.
